Mexican firms Ritch Mueller and Mijares Angoitia have advised on Mexican baking company Grupo Bimbo’s $2.5 billion acquisition of a US bakery business from Canada’s Weston Foods.

Ritch Mueller acted for Grupo Bimbo, with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton acting as international counsel.

Weston Foods was counselled by Mijares Angoitia Cortés y Fuentes in Mexico and Mayer Brown in the US.

White & Case counselled on antitrust issues, while Stikeman Elliott advised on Canadian law.

Grupo Bimbo will acquire 22 bakeries, over 4,000 distribution routes, and a brand portfolio that includes Boboli, Entenmann’s, and Thomas’s - making it one of the largest baked goods companies in the US.
