India's Trilegal loses three to spin-off

Three partners have left Trilegal in India to start Phoenix Legal, which will focus on corporate and finance matters.

New Delhi-based Abhishek Saxena and Saket Shukla, and Mumbai-based Sawant Singh will lead Phoenix. Manjula Chawla, a senior banking partner from Kochhar & Co, will also join the new firm.

They plan to hire up to 10 associates by the end of October 2008. According to Saxena, the new firm has already started work.

Allen & Overy has a non-exclusive referral relationship with the five founding partners of Trilegal, who are remaining at the firm.
